The department of English is one of the most academically vibrant , intellectually robust and pioneering departments of Government P.G. college Joshimath (Uttarakhand). With the inception of of the college  in 1996, the department of English was also established.  A critical academic culture and fruitful tradition of debate and discussion has been the hallmark of the department. Students of this department have very significantly contributed in each and every academic and extracurricular activities in the college. Two of the students of the department , namely Ms. Garima Rautela and  Ms. Aarti Dimri , have been members of the editorial board  in our college magazine in the session of 2017-18 . Many others have taken part in state level and national level sports and cultural extravaganzas. In the previous years, the department has also created a wall magazine viz. KALPANA, THE IMAGES OF LIFE for the creative expression , critical endeavours and literary imagination of young and budding scholars.

Currently, the department has one (01) post of assistant professor and the said post is manned by Dr. Charan Singh.
